Across the Wheatgrass, by H. Ted Upgren, Jr.

Considered a classic collection of stories about North Dakota's natural resources and wildlife conservation, this book is available again for purchase.  It was first published in 1988 as an approved commemorative for the celebration of North Dakota's Centennial in 1989.

Ted Upgren began his work in natural resources conservation in 1965 with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. He retired in 2002 as chief of the information and education division of the North Dakota Game and Fish Department and continued as a contributing writer for many outdoor publications for years.

The book includes 38 essays, each illustrated by well-known state artist Burdette Calkins.  Each folksy story features some facet of prairie life, highlighting hunting, fishing, trapping and outdoors conservation by people across the state.

It presents a timely look at the richness of North Dakota's heritage of celebrating and preserving the outdoors, and portrays for readers 40 years later all that has gone into maintaining this legacy.

220 pages.  Softcover and hardcover.
