The Montana Stranglers in Dakota Territory
By Ron N. Berget
Author Ron Berget grew up on a farm/ranch on Crooked Lake near the community of Turtle Lake, North Dakota. Over the years he heard stories about the raids on the settlers in his area from desperate characters. They were left over from the fur trade in the early 1880s and had begun robbing arriving settlers in the wilderness of Eastern Montana and Northwestern Dakota Territory.
Decades of research into these intriguing stories resulted in this true crime book. In nine chapters Berget covers the colorful personalities of these people and describes their deadly raids across the territory. This is a history of Dakota Territory that is not familiar to many now living in this area and is certainly worthwhile knowing.
